Why?Annual elections of city.
Importance: The Gaza elections of 2006 were so popular because it was the first time a the secular reformed party Fatah which lead to a strong change and reform. U.S. Involvement: Although the US does not officially recognize the Hamas government, it holds it "fully and entirely responsible for the Gaza Strip,". US and Israel showed public support for the new Fatah administration without Hamas. The EU and US normalized the tie to the Palestinian National Authority and resumed direct aid. Israel announced it would return frozen tax revenue of about USD800m to the new Fatah administration. |
Who gets to votes in Israel's democracy? If we exclude Gaza, one in every 4.5 people living under Israeli rule doesn’t have the right to vote in the coming elections; that one person is (almost) always Palestinian. If Gaza is included, it’s one in three who is not represented.
